Main Contractor: Broadstone Construction
Approximately 11 tonnes of steelwork was erected onto the roof of an existing building. Access was an issue so the use of a spider crane enabled us to install steelwork where a standard crane could not access. Columns supporting the new structures were dropped through the existing floor and were founded some 6 metres below the roof deck on pile caps. A transfer structures at roof level distributed the loads from the structure above onto the complex arrangement of columns below. Two huge cruciform steels were required in the transfer structure each plated up on all flanges to increase strength and limit deflection.
